"Sun"
From my Indian series, it is one the last paintings. Inspired by Indians I photographed at the "Red Earth" Pow Wow in Oklahoma city. This painting represents the severe draught we suffered in 2011 which continues today.

This was one of the few paintings of Indians that I was more realistic with. This Chatha Indian was one of the many that I photographed at the "Red Earth" Pow Wow in Oklahome City.
Another painting of the year of rain. The river beds were full and over flowing. There were so many wonderful sites to paint. This painting is on a canvas board and radiates color and the joy of this day. 16"x20" oil. $150.
Palette painting on board 12"x16" oil. Plein Aire painting of a Doss Creekbed. Doss is a beautiful valley just below our property. When it rains the creekbeds swell and the valley is lush. This creekbed is a few months after the rains and is almost dry, but still teaming with life.
One of the things that never seems to get old are the sunsets in Texas. From our deck this view always is worth waiting for. This was one of my early paintings after moving to the Hill Country. Everyday that I can, I try to be present for this beauty.
Did this one Friday evening when the Cafe has a group of local musicians that come and play for their dinner. Some have been playing on this night for 30 years.
I had so much fun with this series of flowers and birds for a show called "Renewal". I kept layering and layering the paint and letting each layer bleed through to the next. I enjoyed letting the paintings tell me where they wanted to go next.
This painting was among several others I painted on a cool morning at a house I called "Rose House" in Fredricksburg, Texas. I was asked to join a group of painters from Colorado to paint for the day, and I stayed at this one site instead of following the group elsewhere. I loved the light aganist the white of the house. There were so many great angels. This is the last of three in the series still for sale.
This was one our first Steers on the property. I loved him because he was an outcase due to his knocked knees. He always rested away from the herd and was the last one to arrive due to his difficulty with moving quickly. We eventually gave hm back to the previous owners because their property was flatter. I loved his eyes and kind spirit. One can learn so much from the natural world about what is fair and what "Just Is".
Out lying property from Fredricksburg, Texas. Beautiful Autumn follage at end of day.
One a many studies I did at a house in Fredericksburg Texas. The light play across the pond and the little statue were so sweet and captivating.
I painted this some years back as a prepainting for the final commission. He was Violinist living in San Diego. In the Final piece I decided to keep it close to this painting with very little color.
The Longhorn steer was one our original group of four. I loved painting him the most most because of his knock knees. In the long run, this put him at a disadvantage because of our hilly and rocky property. We eventually had to give back to the original owners to live out his days.
This painting was done for a show where the artist was asked to render a painting from a scuplture by John Bennett who owns "Agave Gallery" in Fredericksburg. I decided to come close to the face, because of my background as a portrait painter for so many years.
Did this painting this morning of an Old Cat I met some years ago while painting at "Fredericksburg Herb Garden. He just showed up and watched me paint. Now, some 6 years later, the gardens have been completely changed. Sad to think the old cat and the beautiful gardens are no longer there resting in the beautiful tranquility of what was a santuary to paint and dream in.
20"x24" oil on board...available on Paintworks today.
Did the study of a violinist in San Diego some years back. I kept it in the monochromatic scheme and took that to the final piece. It came from many photos and one head study.
